As we head out from the pretty ‘city of lakes’’ - Pokhara through charming terraced villages brimming with life, we trek for several days to go between Machhapuchare and Hiunchuli. It is these gigantic peaks that seem to stand as nature’s guards to the gateway of the shimmering glacial valley that’s home to the Annapurna Sanctuary, named so because of its geographical wonders of tranquility, beauty and the celestial presence of the Hindu goddesses, Annapurna and Gangapurna. This is a massive ice laden cirque that forms some of the uppermost mountains in the world, including the dominating South Face of Annapurna. We spend some time hereabouts exploring, as we check out the famous Annapurna Base Camp, situated at 4,130m/13,550ft.

This inspiring amphitheatre of the Annapurna Sanctuary attracts hordes of trekkers each year, who never seem to tire of the Thespian Mountains and glaciers, including Annapurna I (8,091m), one of the world's highest peaks.

The Tamur River and its tributaries drain the snows of Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. The valley itself is awe-inspiringly beautiful and unspoiled with relatively few villages and little agriculture. Its slopes are well wooded, there are beautiful white beaches for camping and plentiful wildlife to be seen.

This river is a gem in terms of the number of rapids, the amazing scenery, and its wildlife.

Big rapids, warm water, beautiful scenery and great camping make this one of the best rafting trips in the world. The Sun Koshi river rises near Tibet and flows eastward through Nepal to join the Ganges in India. It forms the watershed for most of eastern Nepal, gathering strength from tributaries draining the highest mountains in the World.

For the vast majority of the river there are no roads or towns, just the occasional picturesque village and friendly shouts of ‘Namaste’ from the bank. All along the river are beautiful, large white sandy beaches for camping, and the lower section is heavily forested with troops of monkeys and an abundance of birdlife.
